  7. This text describes the quick installation procedures
  8. for 5PM and the CTB Tools included in this demo package.
  9.  
  10. Read it carefully…

  13. Hardware & Software Requirements :
  14. ---------------------------------

  16. * Any Macintosh with at least 128K Roms (Macintosh Plus and newers).
  17. * Macintosh System Software 6.0.4 or later.
  18. * The Macintosh Communications Toolbox v. 1.0 or later (included in System 7)
  19. * MacTCP 1.0.1 or later

  22. Installation Procedure :
  23. ---------------------

  25. 1) Make sure the CTB is correctly installed.
  26.  
  27. 2) Make sure the MacTCP driver is correctly installed.
  28.  
  29. 3) Put the CTB Tools in the Extensions folder (System 7) or in the Communications folder (System 6).

  31. 4) Install the CTB Tools Fonts in your System.
  32.  
  33. 5) Put the 5PM application and the other folders and documents in the same folder.
  34.     This folder must contain :
  35.       - 5PM
  36.       - 5PM Demo, Click me !
  37.       - Picture Book
  38.       - Sessions Folder
  39.       - Palettes Folder
  40.       - Vamps Folder
  41.       - Esmeralda Folder

  43. 6) Double-click the "5PM Demo, Click me !" palette.

  46. About the demos :
  47. ----------------
  48. Don't forget that you can modify or create palettes. And almost all windows in 5PM, except some alerts and the terminal-emulation windows *are* palettes. So if a demo does not fit your needs, unlock the palette, change its scripts or add some buttons… Scripts can be attached to every button, icon, text, palette and even terminal-emulation windows.

Don't forget also that 5PM is mainly a Terminal-Emulation application. A demo palette called "New Sessions" allows you to create 4 types of sessions from scratch, without having to configure the 3 CTB Tools (Connection, Terminal and File Transfer). But, of course, you can change the parameters of these default sessions, and if you need it, you can use the CTB Tools developed by Apple or other companies…

The included demos contains primarily palettes for Unix users and Vamps for VM and MVS users but you may develop palettes for VM and Vamps for Unix. Creating palettes is easy since they are quite close to HyperCard stacks. Vamps are written in C, Pascal or whatever you want, so they are more efficient but they should be reserved to particular purposes.

  57. If you encounter any problem with a CTB Tool, please refer to the "Read Me" files included in the CTB Tools folder.

  59. If you need to open more than 3 sessions simultaneously, it may be safe to increase the memory allocated to the application.

  61. This Demo version is being made available on this forum ONLY for evaluation purpose. It is fully functional except that the 'Save' functionality has been disabled, and that the connection time is LIMITED TO 8 MINUTES FOR EACH SESSION.

  82. Some hidden features…
  83.     - Control-Option in the Settings menu makes appear the Scripting Interface Dlogs.
  84.     - Shift-Option in the Settings menu makes appear the TermKeys Dlog (Term Tools only).
  85.     - Option in the Windows menu centers the window on the screen.

  87. Some short-cuts when editing palettes :
  88.     - Tab key checks and reformats the script.
  89.     - Enter key saves and closes the script.
  90.     - Shift-click on an item makes appear directly its script.
  91.     - Option-Shift-click on an item makes appear directly the Font Dlog.

  93. Limitations :
  94.     - The Saved Lines feature may not be what you expect… This will soon be corrected !
